MSVA is proud to announce the unveiling of a premier, education-based area youth choir, Vox NoVA. Directed by middle school director Charles Quinlan, Vox NoVA will serve students in grades six through twelve. We will focus on not only creating, rehearsing, and performing a meaningful concert, but building musicianship skills, practicing vocal techniques, and instilling a lifelong love of music.
The program augments school choral programs and provides additional instruction and performance opportunities with students throughout the Northern Virginia area. Students will gain experience singing in an ensemble with a solid vocal technique that allows the voice to grow and develop appropriately. They’ll study fundamental singing techniques, focusing on tone quality, intonation, ear training and music literacy. Singers will learn and perform repertoire from various styles and time periods in a fun, yet focused environment.
Rehearsals will occur on Tuesdays at Stone Hill Middle School in Ashburn from 5:30 – 7:30pm and we are hoping to have our first concert sometime in late winter.
For the season, the tuition will be $540. This is an all-inclusive fee that can be paid up front at a reduced rate of $500 or split over nine months at $60/month. This fee includes the member’s participation in two concerts, including any guest appearances at MSVA performances; a two hour weekly rehearsal with intensive focus on skill-building; a copy of all octavos for the music chosen by the director, as well as a folder in which to store it; and any appearances of guest clinicians invited to work with the group. Compared to private lesson instruction, which typically runs $60/hour, this is an excellent way for your child to be part of something greater than themselves while still growing as musicians.
Prorated rates are available after the start of the season.
Please fill out the form below to show your interest for the choir; the director will contact you for a placement audition (this does not determine your acceptance into the choir, it simply gives the director a chance to get to know you and your voice).
Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to singing together!
